What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is delivering on-demand access to computing resources like servers, storage, databases, software, networking, analytics, intelligence, and more over the Internet. You access these services without needing to manage the physical infrastructure yourself.
What is cloud computing in simple terms?
Cloud computing refers to renting computing resources like servers, storage, databases, software, and more over the internet. You access these services from anywhere with an Internet connection, on any device, like a phone or laptop. It's a way to access powerful computing without the burden of maintaining your own physical hardware.
What are the benefits of cloud computing?
Cloud computing lowers IT operational costs because the cloud provider manages the underlying infrastructure, including hardware and software. Those managed components are typically more reliable and secure than the standard corporate data centre. These advantages free IT teams to focus on work that more directly benefits the business.
The cloud is also global, convenient, immensely scalable and easily accessible, all of which accelerate the time to create and deploy software applications. It opens organisations to a host of newer services that enable the most popular trends in application architectures and uses, including microservices, containers, serverless computing, machine learning, large-scale data analytics, IoT and more.
Is the cloud secure?
The clouds themselves are generally more secure than most private data centres since companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Google can hire talented engineers and automate many of their practices. Cloud infrastructure providers also offer tools and architectural options to isolate workloads, encrypt data and detect potential threats.

What is MDM?
MDM is a software solution that allows organisations to manage and secure mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. This includes devices that employees use for work (company-owned) or their personal devices used for work (BYOD - Bring Your Own Device).
Why is MDM important?
MDM helps organisations protect their data by enforcing security policies on mobile devices. It also helps to streamline device management tasks like app deployment and configuration.
What happens to my personal data with MDM?
MDMs typically don't access personal information like messages, photos, or emails. They might see installed apps and enforce security policies.
What is Microsoft Intune?
Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based service that helps organisations manage mobile devices, desktops, laptops, and other endpoints. It lets IT admins configure security policies, distribute apps, and remotely wipe devices if lost or stolen. See our Microsft Intune page for further info.
What benefits does Intune offer?
For IT admins, Intune offers centralised device management, improved security, and simplified app deployment. For end-users, Intune provides secure access to work email, apps, and Wi-Fi from anywhere.
How do I know if my device is managed by Intune?
If your device is enrolled in Intune, you'll likely have the "Company Portal" app installed. This app allows you to access company resources and manage your device settings according to your organisation's policies.
What devices does Intune support?
Intune supports a wide range of devices, including Windows PCs, Macs, Android devices, iOS devices, and even some ruggedised devices.
Can I use Intune on my personal device for work purposes?
Yes, Intune can be used to manage both personal and work devices. This is called Mobile Application Management (MAM) and allows IT admins to secure work data on your personal device without affecting your personal data.
How does Intune improve device security?
Intune lets you enforce strong passwords, require encryption, and configure features like selective wipe to remove only company data from a lost device. For further information on Intune and its capabilities, see our Microsoft Intune service page.
How do I set up Intune?
Microsoft provides resources and documentation to help you set up Intune but it can be a complicated procedure. It typically involves integrating with your Azure Active Directory and configuring policies for your needs. Here at D8A we provide a free review of your current setup to ascertain your requirements and can then provide a custom setup of Intune that is tailored to your business. Please contact us to discuss.
Is Microsoft Intune free to use?
Trying out Intune is free for 30 days and then becomes a paid subscription. If you already have a work or school account, sign in with that account and add Intune to your subscription. Otherwise, you can sign up for a new account to use Intune for your organisation. You can't combine an existing work or school account after you sign up for a new account. We can take the hassle out of creating and setting accounts. Please contact us to discuss.
What is Microsoft Endpoint Manager?
Microsoft Endpoint Manager is a comprehensive solution designed to help IT professionals manage and secure a wide range of devices, including PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. It brings together several tools and services into a unified platform, simplifying the management process.
